Hello and Welcome

If you look through my photo archives from the last 30 years, you’ll notice a funny theme:

I have many pictures of my wife and son walking further down the various trails.

For decades, photography was something I did in a rush. I was always the one trailing behind, snapping a quick memory, and running to catch up. The photos recorded the moment, but they lacked “art.”

My name is Steve Young, and The Second Act Photographer is my journey to change that.

After retiring from a career in tech at 60, I finally have the gift of time. I am using it to move from a casual picture-taker to a thoughtful photographer.

Almost every piece of kit I own is second-hand. I’ve always been a saver by nature, but now that the regular paychecks have stopped, being smart with my budget is more critical than ever.

In this newsletter, we aren’t going to talk about being a globetrotting pro. We are going to talk about:

  • Sharing photo stories.

  • Getting the most out of the equipment we already have.

  • Finding a community of friends to learn with.

  • Answering the why and how

I am glad you’re here to join the community.
