Photo Stories: Week 10 In Review
Summary of my Photos Of The Day Week 10 (POD)
Welcome to week 10
Between health and an amazing trip to Portugal, I put posting on hold for a bit. But that being said, I have so many pictures to review from the last little while.
Day 64/365 - The First Act of Spring
Spring is upon us, and now I can go to the local garden center with a new purpose. Even before we can plant, I find even a short mindful trip to the nursery a good pick-me-up. This palette of Primroses, with its vibrant colours and deeply textured leaves, is a great example of the early spring options available.

Day 65/365 - Sunrise From Forest
This is from a cottage we were at a few summers ago. I had just left the cottage for a quick morning walk and was hit with this amazing light coming through the forest.
I like how this turned out, making a classic “frame within a frame” composition. The way the dark silhouettes of the forest trees create a keyhole-like view looking out onto the lake.
Brings back such good memories.

Day 66/365 - Career Library
This is a view of some of my computer books from back in March 2007, most likely the day before I started at Microsoft. At that time, before the Internet became the comprehensive resource it is now, documentation was not online, and knowledge hubs were just emerging. Building a personal library of books was essential for continuous learning, and connecting with the development community was crucial for gaining real-world experience.
Now retired, I still buy books, but how we learn is so different now. Something about the smell of the paper and the sound of flipping pages brings back memories of the old days, reminding me of a different era of learning.

Day 67/365 - Digital Heritage - iPod 2007
Digital Heritage. I dug through the archives and found my old 2007 iPod. Looking at the screen, it’s clear that the seeds for The Second Act Photographer were planted a long time ago. I spent countless hours listening to photography pioneers as I navigated my career, never quite realizing I was laying the foundation for what I’m doing today.

Day 68/365 - Nova Scotia Lobster Industry
If I have learned one thing during my photographic journey, it is that no matter what the conditions, you can always find subjects. Even with this old Nikon 6 megapixel D40.
My family is from the Maritimes, which we call the eastern provinces here in Canada. I can just imagine the history of this warehouse, with the weathered, aging lobster traps lined up for repairs or for sale to tourists.
This photo is from one my favorite trips to Nova Scotia. This capture was on our way to Peggy’s Cove. The power lines and the trail of lobster traps provide a nice leading line to the old warehouse, where splashes of colour brightened an otherwise dreary day.

Day 69/365 - Storms A Brewing
We set out for a cozy cottage rental just outside Bala, Ontario—a picturesque town nestled in the Township of Muskoka Lakes. Famous as the “Cranberry Capital of Ontario,” Bala sits where Lake Muskoka pours into the Moon River, sending water rushing through scenic waterfalls.
As we drove into town, we saw a storm forming and stopped at a cute little roadside restaurant for lunch. The storm did not disappoint; these clouds marked the beginning of an amazing torrential downpour and lightning storm.

Day 70/365 - Up The Escarpment
The Niagara-on-the-Lake region is filled with amazing trails and places to explore. This scene is from the Niagara Glen Trail located on the Niagara River. My view was immediately drawn to the natural architecture of this path. I liked the way the irregular limestone slabs create a rugged, organic staircase that pulls the eye directly upward.
The trail was such a nice diversion from the fall tourist traffic. The seclusion of the trail blocked out all the traffic and other noise, leaving me with an appreciation for getting out and enjoying the nature around us.
